Description:

Shalom Y’all.  Jews have lived in the Southern United States since before there was a United States and have continued to move here ever since. Some came as merchants with packs on their backs and started “Jew stores”. Some came as migrants from South America fleeing persecution and created thriving communities in which they prospered economically and socially. Today, we have large American Jewish centers in many southern cities including Raleigh North Carolina.  How did they get here? Why do they come? What did they do when they got here? What was it like to be a Jew in the South? Let’s take a Jewish journey down Southern roads and byways and discover together a piece of American history we probably didn’t learn in school. Series taught by Deborah Goldstein
