State of North Carolina Holocaust Commemoration

The 2019 State of North Carolina Holocaust Commemoration will be held Sunday, April 14, 2019, in Raleigh at Temple Beth Or (Satisky Hall), 3-5pm. The Featured Speakers will be

  • Esther Gutman Lederman, who survived as a hidden teenager with a Catholic family in Poland. Ms. Lederman’s memoir is Hiding for Our Lives: The Wartime Memoirs of Esther Gutman Lederman and Ezjel Lederman (2007).

  • Mark Werner, son of Harold Werner, a Jewish partisan fighter in occupied Poland, whose memoir is Fighting Back: A Memoir of Jewish Resistance in WWII (1994).

The Annual Commemorations feature

  • A Holocaust survivor or scholar as the guest speaker

  • Student writing, artistic creations, vocal and dramatic performances, and other Holocaust projects.

  • Presentations by state officials, clergy, and others

  • A candle-lighting ceremony.
