Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary Welcomes New Executive Director
Phillip Brodsky brings 15 years of Jewish leadership to the Triangle
The Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary is excited to announce the hiring of Phillip Brodsky as its new Executive Director, effective immediately.
“I am thrilled to join the leadership of the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary and partner with the thousands of Jewish families in Raleigh and Cary who care deeply about Jewish values such as service, learning and taking care of each other,” said Brodsky.
Brodsky joins the Federation during a time when, despite a global pandemic, the community has been able to come together through virtual programming events like online concerts and first-night Chanukah celebrations. The Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary represents over 800 donors and volunteers across Wake County and the surrounding areas. Through its agencies The Raleigh-Cary Jewish Community Center and Raleigh-Cary Jewish Family Services, The Federation continues to serve the growing needs of the community. Over the last year, Jewish Family Services provided financial and food assistance to over 80 households, and served over 400 clients through counseling, therapy, and case management. Additionally, this past summer the JCC was able to provide a safe environment for 154 campers, and has continued to provide COVID-friendly programs and services at the David R. Kahn Community Campus.
The Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary’s Board of Trustees began its search process for an Executive Director in June 2020, in order to find a leader able to guide the Jewish community through the COVID crisis, as well as unite the community around a shared vision for 2021 and beyond.
“Phil brings with him experience on the national Jewish community level, a visionary leadership skill set, and a strategic know-how to our community,” said Jamie Rose Eliahu, President of the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary Board of Trustees. “I’m confident that his insight working alongside our Board of Trustees and outstanding staff will enable our organization to engage more families and increase the services that we are providing to the community.”
Brodsky has spent his career in national Jewish leadership roles with Hillel International, The David Project, and Alpha Epsilon Pi Foundation. As executive director of The David Project, he oversaw the organization’s fundraising efforts, strategic planning, and program design during a period in which The David Project dramatically increased its impact. Over his career at Hillel and The David Project, Brodsky has created community building summits with the Jewish-Black and Jewish-Latino communities; created opportunities for the Jewish community to engage on current issues, and found ways to bring people from all backgrounds to learn about Israel by launching The David Project's Israel Uncovered trip, which sent more than 1,000 students to Israel over a seven-year period.
This move is considered a homecoming of sorts for Brodsky, a Charlotte native, who earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his Masters in Jewish Professional Leadership and Masters in Business Administration from Brandeis University. He currently lives in Washington, DC with his wife, Mindy, and son, Simon, and they are excited to be relocating to Raleigh later this month.
“My family and I could not be happier to be coming to North Carolina to such a warm and welcoming Jewish community in Raleigh,” said Brodsky. “I look forward to working together to strengthen the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary's culture of philanthropy, engage Jews and their families in new and exciting ways, and empower the Jewish people of Raleigh to make a great impact locally, national and globally.”
The Raleigh-Cary Jewish community was able to virtually meet Phil briefly during its annual Community Meeting in November 2020, but The Federation is planning numerous virtual opportunities to meet Brodsky and get to know the Federation’s goals in 2021. More details will be announced at a later date.
