Phil Friday: We All Belong at Shabbat

One of my favorite things about Judaism is the spirit of community that comes with Shabbat. Whether you are marking Shabbat at synagogue, at home with family, with a friend, or taking a needed break on your own, Shabbat is an experience that is designed to help us reset and connect. The Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh is all about being inspired by our Jewish roots for deeper connection. That is why this spring we are bringing two new Shabbat experiences to our community.

First, I am so excited to launch Shabbat Across Greater Raleigh. On Friday, May 19th, we are encouraging our community to come together through Shabbat dinner experiences all across Greater Raleigh. We are recruiting 100 hosts to create Shabbat experiences for you, your family and friends. Federation will provide you with an easy Shabbat guide, discussion questions, and even an optional menu for inspiration. You can customize your Shabbat experience so that it is just right for you and your loved ones. By doing so, you will know that you are one part of a hundred households who are enjoying Shabbat together across our community.

I hope you will join us! My wife, Mindy, sent me a list of 30 people she wants to host in our backyard! I know others are planning to meet in parks, at their local brewery, and in homes of their friends. We are excited for this opportunity and to hear about all the great conversations and connections that will happen. If you are interested in hosting one of these dinners, CLICK HERE to learn more.

Second, in June we are pleased to co-host with Temple Beth Or a new type of Shabbat experience that focuses on mindfulness and meditation through sound. Please consider joining us on Saturday, June 3rd, for Beyond Shabbat: Sound Bath. We are bringing in an expert sound therapist and teacher, Daran Wallman, to lead us through this experience. You won’t want to miss these opportunities to refresh, recharge, and reconnect as we enter summer.

Wishing you all a Shabbat Shalom,

Phil
