Phil Friday: Partners in Pride
In recent months we have encountered antisemitism seemingly everywhere.
While this trend is very troubling for the Jewish community directly, we also know that many of the groups promoting antisemitism are also actively promoting other types of hatred, including targeting the LGBTQ community.
It is with this knowledge that we take time to celebrate June as Pride Month. We welcome the participation of LGBTQ Jews and their families, and we work to affirm that LGBTQ Jews are a valued part of the Greater Raleigh Jewish Community. I’m proud that our new logo speaks to our welcoming values — the bright orange in the logo’s flame is representative of inclusion.
As CEO of Jewish Federation, one of my goals is to cultivate allies for the Jewish community and for us to be an ally for others. Many of our partners around town have shown their support for the Jewish community, from public menorah lightings to panels on how to fight antisemitism. We want to return their kindness by amplifying their efforts to support and celebrate the LGBTQ community.
Below are some upcoming events. Some Jewish organizations will be there with booths, so stop by and say hello!
Town of Cary is hosting a variety of Pride Month programs, including movie screenings and concerts.
The LGBT Center of Raleigh will hold Out! Raleigh Pride on June 24.
Wake County Public Libraries are hosting a series of virtual events for Pride Month.
We all belong!
Shabbat Shalom,
Phil
