Raleigh City Council Blocks Anti-Israel Ceasefire Resolution

The Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh supports the results of the Raleigh City Council vote on a one-sided ceasefire resolution, which failed to pass in a 4-4 vote today.

The reintroduction of this debate threatened to continue dividing this community and invite further harassment of elected officials and private citizens. We hope that today’s vote puts this matter to rest and that the Raleigh City Council can focus their time and resources on improving the quality of life for people who live and work in Raleigh.

Jewish Federation extends our heartfelt appreciation to Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin and Raleigh City Council Members Jonathan Melton, Stormie Forte, and Corey Branch for voting “no” on this one-sided ceasefire resolution. We believe their votes reflect the views of the majority of Raleigh citizens.

We encourage you to thank the Raleigh City Council members who voted against this measure. Below is a sample email and email addresses.

Dear [City Council Member],

I am writing to thank you for having the courage to block the cease-fire resolution that was voted on by the Raleigh City Council on March 5. This has been an extremely contentious issue that increased fear and concern in the Raleigh Jewish community, and the resolution had elements that were highly one-sided. Hopefully, this will finally bring closure to this challenging period for the City of Raleigh.

I look forward to supporting your initiatives that help mend our community. I pray every day for the end of this war and the release of the hostages. I grieve for the enormous loss of life and the suffering that was brought on by the October 7 attack by Hamas. Again, I am very grateful to each and every one of you for having the courage to stand up for your entire community.

Regards,
