Dr. Fischer’s talk, illustrates with slides and film clips the American Yiddish-language 1939 film, "Tevye" based on a Sholem Aleichem story. "Tevye"was a precursor to "Fiddler on the Roof" establishing itself in the American Yiddish cinema of the 1930s.
Lucy Fischer, a Distinguished Professor Emerita, of Film and Media Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, is the author of fifteen books pertaining to film. She has held curatorial positions at NYC's Museum of Modern Art and Pittsburgh's Carnegie Museum of Art and has received both a NEA Art Critics Fellowship and a NEH Fellowship for University Professors. She has served as President of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies and received its Distinguished Service Award.
