A Statement on the Current Violence in Israel
The Jewish Community Relations Council, a division of the Federation of Raleigh-Cary stands in solidarity with all Israelis during this difficult time of increased violence in Jerusalem and across the country.
Since May 10 more than 1,000 rockets were fired from Gaza at towns and cities across Israel including at Jerusalem. In response, the Raleigh-Cary Jewish community in conjunction with the Jewish Federations of North America, has called on the Palestinian Authority to end its ongoing incitement to violence and to demand that Hamas immediately cease firing rockets at civilian targets in the Jewish State.
Judah Segal, JCRC Chair, Jamie Rose Eliahu, President Board of Trustees at the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary, and Phil Brodsky, Executive Director, the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary reiterated the Jewish Federations' complete support for the Israeli government's right to defend its citizens. Segal added, "The entire North American Jewish community stands in solidarity with all Israelis at this very difficult time."
We pray for a quick resolution to the current tensions in Israel and hope for a day in which Israelis and Palestinians can live together peacefully and in freedom and security side by side. Our eternal hope is for the day that, as our tradition teaches, “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4)
