An Updated Statement on the Violence in Israel

The Jewish Community Relations Council and the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary continue to hold firm in our support of Israel and stand in solidarity with all Israelis as violence continues across the country.

Since May 10, more than 4,000 rockets have been fired from Gaza targeting towns and cities across Israel, including Jerusalem, forcing Israelis into bomb-shelters all hours of the day. In response, Israel launched Operation Guardian of the Walls, targeting Hamas infrastructure in Gaza. We support the Israeli government’s right to defend its citizens against these ongoing terrorist attacks. We demand that Hamas immediately cease firing rockets at civilian targets in the Jewish State.

In this current cycle of violence, every death is a tragedy, and we grieve for every Israeli and Palestinian civilian loss. We pray for a quick resolution to the current tensions in Israel and hope for a day in which Israelis and Palestinians can live together peacefully in freedom and security, side by side.

To bring our community together in this time of crisis, the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary will be hosting a virtual Community Gathering for Israel and Peace this Sunday at 7 p.m. We invite members of our community to come together to support our friends and family in Israel, to mourn the loss of life on both sides, and to pray for peace.  It is our hope that our actions will help repair the world for all people.
